  •  Support Engineer - Los Angeles

    We're looking for an enthusiastic and outgoing person to join our IT Support team in our LA office. You will be working with a vast and complex array of technologies for one of the world's leading visual effects and animation studios.  You will work out of Venice/Hollywood/Burbank locations and also interface with our Sydney and Vancouver studios.  The majority of the work will be face-to-face with producers/head of departments and will require some email correspondence with our Sydney support team during their business hours.  Ideal candidate should have knowledge of the animation production process, excellent communication and follow-up skills, understanding of the demands of production, and have a willingness to support production as dictated by their schedules.
     
     
    Duties and responsibilities include:
     
    • Provide 1st/2nd level technical support.
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of additions, deletions and major modifications to the supporting local infrastructure.
    • Follow IT procedures as established by the Sydney studio.
    • Oversee the administration and maintenance of the company's Los Angeles infrastructure, including workstations, servers, storage, network, tape backups and video equipment.
    • Ensure the reliable and efficient handling of video media and image data to meet the needs of staff and clients through all service areas (transfer, duplication, display, editing, archiving).
    • Maintain video & data capture & transfer systems (Mac, PC or other).
    • Perform maintenance on a broad range of video equipment, including display set-ups and alignment through to cabling and routing, if required.
    • Manage the company's IP telephone and Video Conferencing systems at the local level.
    • Occasional requirement to perform after hours and/or weekend support.
    • Relocation of IT equipment (moving machine/s, monitors etc).
    • Ensure that asset management, licensing, OH&S, and other company policies are being adhered to.
    • Get quotes and manage vendors as required
    • Assist with project tasks driven by the Sydney studio.
    • Generate and maintain both internal and end user documentation, as required.
    • Take calls from Editorial when issues arise and respond appropriately;
    • Strong knowledge of and experience with Avid Media Composer;
    • Escalate issues to vendors if required;
    • Assistance with daily office duties:  includes phone coverage, opening/closing of the office, office moves, etc.; position is considered part of the office administration rotation (when coverage is necessary).

    Requirements:

    To be successful in this role, the following will be required:
     
    • Must have relevant technical skills and experience
    • Previous experience in either a senior support role or mid-level system engineering role
    • Must have strong communication skills
    • Strong troubleshooting skills
    • Linux, Windows and OSX Operating System exposure.
    • Networking and connectivity skills
    • MAC/PC maintenance and software installation
    • Installation and upgrading of MAC/PC hardware

    Animal Logic is looking for a 1st Assistant Editor for our first Animated Feature in Vancouver!
     
    Key Responsibilities include:

    • To bring creative solutions to sequences of the Lego ® Movie 2, ensuring solutions are in line with production parameters including budgets, shot count allowances, and duration targets
    • Leading a team of Assistant Editors, managing their time, priorities and project-specific knowledge

    We are seeking an Artist Management Supervisor for our Vancouver Animation studio to successfully lead the Vancouver artist management team in ensuring an efficient and consistent approach to the resourcing and management of artists. This role reports into the Executive Vice President & General Manager of the Studio, leads the artist management team, as well as personally manages a number of assigned artists.
     
    Key responsibilities include:
     
    • Partnering with the Head of Artist Management (Sydney) and the EVP &GM to develop a consistent approach to the daily operations of the Vancouver artist management team
    • Leading, developing and growing the Vancouver-based Artist Management team members

  •  Lead Matte Painter – LEGO ® 2

    Animal Logic is seeking a talented Lead Matte Painter to join our team to join us on our first animated feature in Vancouver!

    The Lead Matte Painter must be able to demonstrate the aesthetics and techniques required to produce breathtaking photo realistic imagery and the ability to oversee all matte painting assets and  their implementation within the Animal logic pipeline, with a thorough understanding of all possible techniques.

    This role is responsible for this crew and the quality of its output. This is a technical managerial role which involves working closely with the Production Designer and the Art director to realise the production requirements.
     

    Key Responsibilities Include:
     
    • Understand a projects creative objective
    • Working in partnership with Modelling and Comp departments to achieve the highest outcomes
    • Creating digital matte paintings that may be created from scratch or from sampled photography, scanned reference or any other artwork necessary to create new objects or to match the surfaces of existing live action
    • Continue to actively develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills including knowledge of technical processes in Animation and compositing
    • Bring all significant production issues to the attention of the Art Director, Leads, Producer and Head of Department and help to resolve them
    • Collaborate to shape the matte pipeline within the larger Animal Logic context and oversee it's consistent integration and application
    • Understanding of the stereoscopic impact on the pipeline

  •  Render Wrangler Technician– Facilities

    We are looking for a Render Wrangler Technician to ensure render jobs within production are delivered in a timely and efficient manner while ensuring the render-queuing system (farm) is constantly monitored to help achieve efficient and trouble free rendering.
     
    Key responsibilities include:

    • Work with artists and Render Supervisor to diagnose production rendering problems
    • Monitor production render queues and respond to identified errors/faults
    • Manage production render resource allocations
    • Work with production to identify render farm priorities (shows, department, shots)
    • Analyze and report system failures to System Administration where required
    • Escalate system faults in a timely manner and ensure follow through where required
    • Working with the Supervisor and artists on the delivery of the final rendered computer graphics elements for animation of film

    Requirements:

    Animal Logic is looking for a Technical Animator for our first Animated Feature in Vancouver!
     
    Key responsibilities:
     
    The Technical Animator is the first port of call for any technical issue on the floor for their Animation team. This could include things such as:
    • Issues with animators scenes.
    • Helping with technical workflows
    • Breakdown issues and trouble shooting
    • Tools issues
    • Delivery/packaging issues coming into and out of anim (from rig, surf, edit....to FX, light...)
    • Debugging render issues for Anim reviews.

    The Animal Logic R&D team is responsible for developing innovative graphics tools in support of our animation productions.  Reporting to the Software Development Manager, this role will provide support to the department in a very dynamic environment. The successful candidate will be assisting a department that is responsible for mission-critical tools used throughout the production pipeline.

    We are currently looking for a Full Stack Developer to join us in our new Vancouver facility. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a variety of web browser and Java based technologies in our “mature” but continuously evolving mission-critical systems, as well as contributing to the evolution of those systems.

    The position will have you working as part of a small international team; that forms part of a larger group focused on satisfying the bespoke software requirements and support requests of the creative workflows. You will interact regularly with artists and leads in the production departments. You will be involved in the design, development and maintenance of production workflow management and reporting systems; digital asset management systems that play a key role in automating parts of our film production pipeline. A particular focus will be working on our proprietary compute farm management software, which manages 10s of thousands of cores.

    Our global R&D department is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to lead our pipeline team in Vancouver. You will have experience in the visual effects/animation industry, and will ideally have previously lead small teams or you may currently be a senior developer who is ready to take their leadership skills to the next level.
     
    As a lead, you will collaborate daily with production and technical personnel in both Vancouver and Sydney. You will also be involved in software design, reviewing code, and evolving development practices across multiple sites.

    • Lead the design and development of pipeline software used by artists in various craft departments

  •  Senior CAMERA Polish / Final Camera Artist – LEGO® Animated Features

    Animal Logic is looking for a senior camera polish artist with a range of experience to help define the visual camera language of our animated features. As part of the layout team you will be working to realize the director’s cinematic vision for an animated feature film.

    This position will be based at our animation studios in Sydney, Australia. Due to the short time frame for this role, we can only consider applicants who are currently able to work in Australia.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Work as a senior member of a team of layout and camera polish artists, under the supervision of a layout supervisor.
    • Responsible for animating the natural and seamless camera movements for the film.

    Requirements:

    All candidates should:
    • Display a strong reel that shows examples of work done in the 3d computer generated environment of an animated movie or television production. Within the reel there should be examples of entire sequences not just single shots.
    • Demonstrate a strong understanding of camera animation, composition and depth of field.
    • Possess excellent organizational and verbal communication skills.

    2017 is shaping up to be a busy year for Compositing at Animal Logic!
     
    We have both VFX and Animated Feature projects in house and expect to have opportunities for Mid to Senior level Nuke Compositors for projects of varying durations throughout the year. We may also have a small number of Lead Compositor roles available.

  •  Expression of Interest - Roto Training

    The Animal Logic Roto Training course is an unpaid 4 week full time course held in our Studio located in Fox Studios Australia.

    This program is designed to fill our need for Roto trainees on future projects.  It is Nuke based and allows people to progress naturally onto a Compositing 2D based career path. 

    The course is Roto based, but basic compositing techniques, tracking, keying and a bit of the 3D camera system is covered too.  We will also cover 3D stereo techniques as this is skill set that is required for many projects.

    Knowledge of Nuke is handy but not necessary.  We tend to look for art based skills rather than technical based software skills.

    Whilst we conduct this training during downtime at the studio, it is also in preparation for possible upcoming projects.  However, completing this training does not guarantee you a role on our next project and unfortunately we cannot guarantee when the next project will commence.

    Requirements:

    • Roto or compositing examples with any software
    • Photography/art work/design/concept/illustration/life drawing examples

    The Animal Logic Matchmove Training course is an unpaid 3 - 4 week full time course held in our Studio located in Fox Studios Australia. 

    This program is designed to fill our need for Matchmove trainees on future projects.  Using 3DEqualizer and Maya.  You will need basic Maya skills.

    The learning outcome is for you to be able to take a shot from start and assess it, problem solve (to a degree), produce a successful track, export a camera and line the shot up in Maya to produce a finished camera track; then to pass that onto other departments.

    Whilst we conduct this training during downtime at the studio, it is also in preparation for possible upcoming projects.  However, completing this training does not guarantee you a role on our next project and unfortunately we cannot guarantee when the next project will commence.

    Requirements:

    • Maya skills in any department
