  •  1st Assistant Editor – LEGO ®2

    Animal Logic is looking for a 1st Assistant Editor for our first Animated Feature in Vancouver!
     
    The 1st Assistant Editor’s main responsibilities are:
    • To bring creative solutions to sequences of the Lego ® Movie 2, ensuring solutions are in line with production parameters including budgets, shot count allowances, and duration targets
    • Leading a team of Assistant Editors, managing their time, priorities and project-specific knowledge
    • Ensuring the delivery of all video/image/audio request and deliverables to the editors
    • Work with the support engineers to maintain the integrity of the editing equipment, tracking and configuring media storage
    • Ensuring all editors hardware/software runs correctly with minimal issues, reporting any concerns to the Edit TD
    • Responsible for Avid projects structure and back up
    • Assisting with any overflow work from the Picture Editor
    • Communicating day to day status and any needs to production
    • Prep all cuts at various stages including blocking, WIP and screenings


    Requirements:

    The following will be highly regarded:
    • Production experience with Avid
    • 2 – 3  years’ experience working in a similar role on feature films
    • Experience in Animated Features is a bonus

  •  Production Supervisor - LEGO ®2

    Animal Logic is one of the world's most accomplished digital studios producing award winning, ground breaking and trail blazing animation, visual effects and design.
     
    We are about to commence our next slate of Animated feature films and we are looking for energetic and experienced Production Supervisors to join our Vancouver team.
     
    Key Responsibilities include:
     
    • The Production Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of all processes, procedures, outputs and deliverables for their respective department(s) and ensuring the outputs and interactions of those departments are aligned with production needs.
    • A Production Supervisor is assigned to a specific department or group of departments and is an integral part of the management structure of that team or teams.
    • Assists the Production Manager and Associate Producer in assigning appropriate manpower and scheduling to ensure completion of their respective departments goals.
    • Responsible for the day to day running of their department(s), managing established schedules through production planning, coordination and troubleshooting.
    • Provides the department supervisors and artists with support to enable them to complete their work.
    • Supervises Production Coordinators within their department(s).
    • Will work closely with other Production Supervisors to ensure that inventory moves smoothly from one department to the next.
    • Uses and contributes to the ongoing development of tracking/reporting documentation and in house tracking systems.
    • Completes special projects as needed or requested.

    Requirements:

  •  Senior Artist Manager - Facility

    Senior Artist Manager (full-time, two year contract)  

    To support our production structure we are seeking a Senior Artist Manager for our Vancouver studio.  This role reports into the Executive Vice President & General Manager of the Studio.
     

    Key responsibilities include:
    • Manage, coach and mentor Artists/TDs in the Vancouver studio
    • Work with Production and Recruitment to schedule existing and new hires into appropriate roles and establish longer term recruitment needs
    • Managing artist reviews, artist training and project scheduling to help develop and nurture career growth of the artists
    • Work with Craft Supervisors, Leads and Production to cultivate a strong studio culture and keep artists motivated and engaged
    • Conduct project/yearly compensation and performance reviews in collaboration with Craft Supervisors and Leads
    • Work with management team and HR on talent management strategies and processes
    • Working in with Head of Artist Management and peers across the various Animal Logic studios in Australia and the US
    • Work with facility managers on seating arrangements and structure for artists in the studio

    Requirements:

    To be successful in this role, the following is required of all candidates:
    • A relevant Bachelor’s degree
    • At least five years’ experience working in the Animation and Visual Effects industry
    • At least five years’ experience as an artist manager
    • Experience in a large global studio
    • Deep experience in recruitment, hiring and onboarding artists
    • Extensive experience in managing, coaching, developing and mentoring a large number (50+) of direct reports
    • Deep knowledge and experience in managing the annual compensation review process, employee contract renewals, salary negotiations, promotions, intra-company transfer offers and resource planning.
    • Experience in working closely with executive teams and HR teams
    • Experience in developing talent management strategies and process improvements.
    • Ability to think laterally and take a pragmatic approach in order to represent the individual needs of both artists and production crew, within the parameters of a project-based production environment
    • Well-developed inter-personal communication and listening skills to engage in dialogue effectively across numerous departments and levels
    • Experience in dealing with group dynamics and conflict resolution

  •  HR Operations Supervisor – Facility

    We are seeking a HR Operations Supervisor who will supervise the operational requirements of the HR function.  This is an all-encompassing and hands on, operational role!

    Key responsibilities:
    • Ensure the HR components from the on boarding process through to the exiting process are smooth for both employees and the business
    • Research, recommend, develop and implement contemporary HR operational solutions to support the business

    We are seeking a Support Engineering/Desktop Supervisor who is committed to leading and managing a customer focused Support team in a dynamic environment.
     
    As the Support Engineering/Desktop Supervisor, you will strive to improve departmental service and performance, reduce costs through efficient utilisation and management of support systems; and maximise business productivity by having the responsiveness and flexibility necessary to meet changing production demands.
     
    Key responsibilities include:
     
    • Manage and monitor performance, quality, and completeness of work within the Support Engineering/Desktop Team to ensure that team goals for responsiveness, quality, and service levels are met or exceeded.
    • Monitor incoming requests, and delegate work efficiently to ensure successful completion of projects and tasks across crew members of all skill levels.

  •  Support Engineer - Facility

    We are seeking a Support Engineer who has the experience to work across different operating systems!  You will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the company’s IT systems and networks and provide efficient desktop/laptop support to all business users.
     
    Key responsibilities include:
     
    • Install and configure computer systems, diagnose hardware and software faults and solve technical and application problems
    • Act as the point of escalation when issues arise and direct them where most appropriate
    • Liaison between the Vancouver and Sydney IT support teams

  •  Senior Software Engineer: Pipeline - Facility

    We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer  to join the global Pipeline team, responsible for creating software used by artists in various craft departments. As a member of the team you will be building tools and interfaces, enabling asset flow, scene assembly and scene manipulation, to support and manage complex workflows in a highly iterative pipeline.  

    You will have experience in the visual effects/animation industry and have an excellent ability to communicate effectively with both technical and creative crew, and have demonstrated your capability to operate independently as well as within a larger team.

    We will be adapting our existing Lego pipeline to meet the creative requirements of several new films and you will collaborate daily with production and technical personnel in both Vancouver and Sydney.


    Requirements:

    To be successful in this role you must have:
     
    • A Post-Secondary qualification in Computer Science or Engineering
    • Experience developing software in Python and C++
    • Experience building user interfaces with pyQT
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience working with the APIs of industry standard applications such as Maya, XSI, Nuke, etc.
    • Knowledge of Rendering, Shading, CharFX, Linear Algebra and other related areas a plus

    • Experience with technical aspects of Houdini in a production environment such as: Digital Assets, HOM, Vex, Hscript, and Houdini environment configuration. Some technical Maya knowledge is also desirable (Mel/python).

    For this role we would look for a minimum of 2 years production experience on feature films. The position involves working closely with the Production Designer, Art Director and Matte Painting Lead to realise the productions requirements.


    Requirements:

    • Ability to follow a brief and produce complex matte painted elements to a high standard with a thorough understanding of perspective, lighting, and colour.
    • Feature film experience, with a high level of expertise in producing designs for large screen format.

    We are seeking a Compositing Supervisor for our expanding visual effects Compositing department. We are after a collaborative individual to head up a dynamic department that values both its creative edge and strong technical back bone.
     
     They will be part of visual effects team that emphasizes team work, creativity and a dedication to quality.
     
    Principle responsibilities:
    ·       Continue the high standards of quality control with comp department output.
    ·       Continue to establish efficient look development and template based compositing procedures.
    ·       Aid in technical and creative solutions for shots both during production and in the planning of a show.
    ·       Aid in the scheduling and bidding of shots and manage the department schedule.
    ·       Aid in the interviewing, hiring and casting of crew.

    Animal Logic is looking for highly motivated stereoscopic artists with a range of experience to help define the stereoscopic vision of our animated features. As part of the stereo team you will be working to create the most immersive and comfortable stereo shots and realize the director’s cinematic vision for an animated feature film.

    Our ideal candidate has a great sense of 3D cinematography and has a passion for visual storytelling.

    This position will be based at our animation studio in Sydney, Australia.
     

    Responsibilities:

    • Work within a team of stereo artists and the stereo supervisor to create immersive and comfortable 3D images in support of the story


    Duties:

    • Add stereo camera rigs to CG layout
    • Configure and animate the stereoscopic parameters of our custom CG stereo camera rig in order to achieve the creative and technical goals for each shot
    • Set and animate the stereo floating windows to minimize edge violations and meet desired placement of the proscenium

    The Animal Logic Roto Training course is an unpaid 4 week full time course held in our Studio located in Fox Studios Australia.

    This program is designed to fill our need for Roto trainees on future projects.  It is Nuke based and allows people to progress naturally onto a Compositing 2D based career path. 

    The course is Roto based, but basic compositing techniques, tracking, keying and a bit of the 3D camera system is covered too.  We will also cover 3D stereo techniques as this is skill set that is required for many projects.

    Knowledge of Nuke is handy but not necessary.  We tend to look for art based skills rather than technical based software skills.

    Whilst we conduct this training during downtime at the studio, it is also in preparation for possible upcoming projects.  However, completing this training does not guarantee you a role on our next project and unfortunately we cannot guarantee when the next project will commence.
