  •  Support Engineer

    We're looking for an enthusiastic and outgoing person to join our IT Support team in our LA office. You will be working with a vast and complex array of technologies for one of the world's leading visual effects and animation studios.  You will work out of Venice/Hollywood/Burbank locations and also interface with our Sydney and Vancouver studios.  The majority of the work will be face-to-face with producers/head of departments and will require some email correspondence with our Sydney support team during their business hours.  Ideal candidate should have knowledge of the animation production process, excellent communication and follow-up skills, understanding of the demands of production, and have a willingness to support production as dictated by their schedules.
     
     
    Duties and responsibilities include:
     
    • Provide 1st/2nd level technical support.
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of additions, deletions and major modifications to the supporting local infrastructure.
    • Follow IT procedures as established by the Sydney studio.
    • Oversee the administration and maintenance of the company's Los Angeles infrastructure, including workstations, servers, storage, network, tape backups and video equipment.
    • Ensure the reliable and efficient handling of video media and image data to meet the needs of staff and clients through all service areas (transfer, duplication, display, editing, archiving).
    • Maintain video & data capture & transfer systems (Mac, PC or other).
    • Perform maintenance on a broad range of video equipment, including display set-ups and alignment through to cabling and routing, if required.
    • Manage the company's IP telephone and Video Conferencing systems at the local level.
    • Occasional requirement to perform after hours and/or weekend support.
    • Relocation of IT equipment (moving machine/s, monitors etc).
    • Ensure that asset management, licensing, OH&S, and other company policies are being adhered to.
    • Get quotes and manage vendors as required
    • Assist with project tasks driven by the Sydney studio.
    • Generate and maintain both internal and end user documentation, as required.
    • Take calls from Editorial when issues arise and respond appropriately;
    • Strong knowledge of and experience with Avid Media Composer;
    • Escalate issues to vendors if required;
    • Assistance with daily office duties:  includes phone coverage, opening/closing of the office, office moves, etc.; position is considered part of the office administration rotation (when coverage is necessary).

    Requirements:

    To be successful in this role, the following will be required:
     
    • Must have relevant technical skills and experience
    • Previous experience in either a senior support role or mid-level system engineering role
    • Must have strong communication skills
    • Strong troubleshooting skills
    • Linux, Windows and OSX Operating System exposure.

  •  Assembly Prep Artist – LEGO ® 2

    We are looking for Assembly Technical Artists to join the team for our first Animated Feature in Vancouver! The Assembly team is a small, but critical role in Production, where an eye for detail is key! 

    As one of the Asset gatekeepers, you will help maintain the “shot breakdown” - facilitating distribution of assets between various departments, with a special emphasis on supporting the Layout and Animation teams.
     
    Key Responsibilities include:

    • Partner with Layout to troubleshoot shot set-ups/builds and QC
    • Troubleshoot Asset and configuration issues
    • Maintain assets, shot set-ups, and breakdown

    Requirements:

    • 2 year experience in Animated Features, VFX or Games
    • Experience working with assets (modelling, rigging and surfacing)

    Everything will be awesome when you’re part of the team! Animal Logic - the studio that brought you The LEGO Movie – is looking for a Technical FX Artist to commence in October. This is a fulltime, contract role that reports to Artist Management.

    Key Responsibilities Include:

    • Provide highly technical solutions to creative briefs through utilizing workflow and Houdini capabilities
    • Bring a very strong Python understanding which will assist in the develop of techniques and rigs to achieve and optimize approved looks with direction from Supervisor and/or Lead
    • Develop particle and fluid simulations with direction from Supervisor and/or Lead
    • Develop an understanding for the department pipeline including all assets and tools, and their purpose

    We are currently looking for Modelers, at all levels, to join the team for our first Animated Feature in Vancouver! You will be working closely with a variety of departments; including R&D, Art, Rigging and Surfacing.
     
     
    Key Responsibilities Include:
     
    • Translate approved 3D sculptural form or concept art into production ready geometry
    • Produce complex models to a high standard with a thorough understanding of shape, scale and form
    • Understanding of the needs of surfacing and an ability to provide good UV layouts of your models

Work collaboratively with the Vancouver Department Supervisors, Sydney Department TDs and R&D teams to ensure a common and standardized approach to the workflow, tool development and support. This role is a full time contract role that reports directly to Artist Management and CG Supervisors.
     

    Key Responsibilities Include:

    • Responsible for creative problem solving in relation to complex pipelines and assets, user support, environment and character pipeline development, environment shot assembly and technical direction
    • Take responsibility for the optimization of the workflow of the department
    • Work closely with the Department Supervisor to research and develop department specific tools, maintain existing tools and plan for the future show/studio needs
    • Testing and validating new releases of pipeline tools both interactive (Maya/XSI) and automated (Farm) within these Production tool and Farm environments
    • Ensuring the department is technically well supported
    • Liaise with the R&D team to ensure compliance with current internal best practices
    • Effectively report on and communicate issues and work arounds back to the Performance Departments and R&D, tracking and resolving issues in partnership with R&D
    • Assist Artists with day to day issues and glitches and eventually escalating those issues through the right channels when they aren't immediately addressable

    We are currently seeking an exceptional Rigging TD to join us on our first animated feature in Vancouver!
     
    You will be working closely with a variety of departments including; R&D, Art, Modelling, Layout and Animation, to develop, implement and maintain character and prop assets for use in both Layout and Animation.


    Key Responsibilities include:

    • Experience on feature films and/or animated features
    • Developing and maintaining procedural rig components using a custom Python Rigging API
    • Ability to follow a brief and produce complex production ready rigs of a high standard
    • Working with the Modelling Department to ensure that models are suitable for rigging and performance requirements
    • Working with Animators to develop and prototype rigs for a broad range of creative and technical requirements
    • Supporting rigs as they move through the animation pipeline and develop supplementary Animation tools and processes.
    • Interest in pipeline, process, tools and techniques with a high level understanding of industry standards, conventions, formats and common practice

    The Stereographer is responsible for supervising, defining and implementing the successful technical and creative execution of the final stereoscopic output for the film while working in collaboration with the CG Supervisor, Production and R&D. This is a fulltime, contract role that reports to Artist Management.


     Responsibilities Include:
     
    • Ensuring that the films Stereoscopic execution and its final output support are in alignment with the film director’s vision for the film and its narrative
    • Encouraging a broader awareness and understanding of stereoscopic techniques and opportunities to enhance the creative and narrative success of the film
    • When required, partner with the CG Supervisor, R&D, Systems and Production management team to efficiently schedule stereoscopic work to ensure production budgets, milestones and delivery expectations are met
    • Establish the depth script treatment for the film, including feedback regarding framing and staging with the Director, Layout Supervisor, and the Animation Director
    • Attend all stereoscopic reviews with the Director and crew as required providing technical and creative guidance as it relates to stereography
    • Work with related craft areas, including Layout, Animation, Editorial, FX and Lighting, to encourage a solid understanding and awareness of stereoscopic techniques, the opportunities it provides and potential technical challenges it may raise         
    • Mentors their team to continually grow and learn by sharing their expertise and guidance

    Requirements:

    • 5 years minimum working on feature animation, VFX projects or TV Series in a senior position.

    • Pro-actively escalate technical issues to more senior artists or lead

    The Animal Logic Roto Training course is an unpaid 4 week full time course held in our Studio located in Fox Studios Australia.

    This program is designed to fill our need for Roto trainees on future projects.  It is Nuke based and allows people to progress naturally onto a Compositing 2D based career path. 

    The course is Roto based, but basic compositing techniques, tracking, keying and a bit of the 3D camera system is covered too.  We will also cover 3D stereo techniques as this is skill set that is required for many projects.

    Knowledge of Nuke is handy but not necessary.  We tend to look for art based skills rather than technical based software skills.

    Whilst we conduct this training during downtime at the studio, it is also in preparation for possible upcoming projects.  However, completing this training does not guarantee you a role on our next project and unfortunately we cannot guarantee when the next project will commence.

  •  Expression of Interest - Tracking/Matchmove Training

    To register your interest for future Matchmove Training, please fill out the online application form.

    Please register your interest if you are an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident only.

    The Animal Logic Matchmove Training course is an unpaid 3 - 4 week full time course held in our Studio located in Fox Studios Australia. 

    This program is designed to fill our need for Matchmove trainees on future projects.  Using 3DEqualizer and Maya.  You will need basic Maya skills.

    The learning outcome is for you to be able to take a shot from start and assess it, problem solve (to a degree), produce a successful track, export a camera and line the shot up in Maya to produce a finished camera track; then to pass that onto other departments.

    Whilst we conduct this training during downtime at the studio, it is also in preparation for possible upcoming projects.  However, completing this training does not guarantee you a role on our next project and unfortunately we cannot guarantee when the next project will commence.

    Requirements:

    If possible we would to see the following on your reel:

    • Maya skills in any department
    • Photography/art work/design/concept/illustration/life drawing examples
