  •  Support Engineer - Los Angeles

    We're looking for an enthusiastic and outgoing person to join our IT Support team in our LA office. You will be working with a vast and complex array of technologies for one of the world's leading visual effects and animation studios.  You will work out of Venice/Hollywood/Burbank locations and also interface with our Sydney and Vancouver studios.  The majority of the work will be face-to-face with producers/head of departments and will require some email correspondence with our Sydney support team during their business hours.  Ideal candidate should have knowledge of the animation production process, excellent communication and follow-up skills, understanding of the demands of production, and have a willingness to support production as dictated by their schedules.
     
     
    Duties and responsibilities include:
     
    • Provide 1st/2nd level technical support.
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of additions, deletions and major modifications to the supporting local infrastructure.
    • Follow IT procedures as established by the Sydney studio.
    • Oversee the administration and maintenance of the company's Los Angeles infrastructure, including workstations, servers, storage, network, tape backups and video equipment.
    • Ensure the reliable and efficient handling of video media and image data to meet the needs of staff and clients through all service areas (transfer, duplication, display, editing, archiving).
    • Maintain video & data capture & transfer systems (Mac, PC or other).
    • Perform maintenance on a broad range of video equipment, including display set-ups and alignment through to cabling and routing, if required.
    • Manage the company's IP telephone and Video Conferencing systems at the local level.
    • Occasional requirement to perform after hours and/or weekend support.
    • Relocation of IT equipment (moving machine/s, monitors etc).
    • Ensure that asset management, licensing, OH&S, and other company policies are being adhered to.
    • Get quotes and manage vendors as required
    • Assist with project tasks driven by the Sydney studio.
    • Generate and maintain both internal and end user documentation, as required.
    • Take calls from Editorial when issues arise and respond appropriately;
    • Strong knowledge of and experience with Avid Media Composer;
    • Escalate issues to vendors if required;
    • Assistance with daily office duties:  includes phone coverage, opening/closing of the office, office moves, etc.; position is considered part of the office administration rotation (when coverage is necessary).

    Requirements:

    To be successful in this role, the following will be required:
     
    • Must have relevant technical skills and experience
    • Previous experience in either a senior support role or mid-level system engineering role
    • Must have strong communication skills
    • Strong troubleshooting skills
    • Linux, Windows and OSX Operating System exposure.
    • Networking and connectivity skills
    • MAC/PC maintenance and software installation
    • Installation and upgrading of MAC/PC hardware
    • Film/VFX Industry experience, a plus.

  •  Rigging TD - LEGO ® 2

    We are currently seeking an exceptional Rigging TD to join us on our first animated feature in Vancouver!
     
    You will be working closely with a variety of departments including; R&D, Art, Modelling, Layout and Animation, to develop, implement and maintain character and prop assets for use in both Layout and Animation.

    The following skills and experience will be highly regarded:

    • Experience on feature films and/or animated features
    • Developing and maintaining procedural rig components using a custom Python Rigging API
    • Ability to follow a brief and produce complex production ready rigs of a high standard
    • Working with the Modelling Department to ensure that models are suitable for rigging and performance requirements
    • Working with Animators to develop and prototype rigs for a broad range of creative and technical requirements
    • Supporting rigs as they move through the animation pipeline and develop supplementary Animation tools and processes.
    • Interest in pipeline, process, tools and techniques with a high level understanding of industry standards, conventions, formats and common practice
    • Thorough understanding of Python
    • Experience implementing Python in production pipeline
    • Basic or advanced C++ knowledge helpful but not mandatory

    We are currently looking for a talented Senior Surfacing Artist to work on Lego 2 in Vancouver!
     
    Surfacing Artists at Animal Logic are responsible for giving models the visual surface qualities that make them appear believable. Surfacing can encompass texture painting, procedural texturing, shading networks, sculpting, grooming and UV layout. 

    Key Responsibilities Include:

    • Produce high quality digital texture/lookdev work that meets all technical and aesthetic standards for the project
    • Collaborate with other departments to ensure all surfacing works through the pipeline
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to other Surfacing Artists

    Requirements:

    • 5+ years’ experience working on high quality texturing, shading and lookdev (preferably photo-realistic) for feature films, TV and/or animated features
    • Production experience with procedural shading, scripting and/or node based grooming/instancing tools is an advantage
    • Extensive production experience with Mari
    • Extensive production experience in Maya and experience in a modern raytracing package

  •  Stereographer – LEGO ®2

    We are currently looking for a Stereographer to work on LEGO® 2. 
     
    The Stereographer is responsible for supervising, defining and implementing the successful technical and creative execution of the final stereoscopic output for the film while working closely in collaboration with the Layout Supervisor, CG Supervisor, Production and R&D.

     
    Responsibilities Include:
     
    • Ensuring that the films Stereoscopic execution and its final output support are in alignment with the film director’s vision for the film and its narrative
    • Encouraging a broader awareness and understanding of stereoscopic techniques and opportunities to enhance the creative and narrative success of the film
    • When required, partner with the Layout Supervisor, CG Supervisor, R&D, Systems and Production management team to efficiently schedule stereoscopic work to ensure production budgets, milestones and delivery expectations are met
    • Establish the depth script treatment for the film, including feedback regarding framing and staging with the Director, Layout Supervisor, CG Supervisor, and the Animation Director
    • Attend all stereoscopic reviews with the Director and crew as required providing technical and creative guidance as it relates to stereography
    • Work with related craft areas, including Layout, Animation, Editorial, FX and Lighting, to encourage a solid understanding and awareness of stereoscopic techniques, the opportunities it provides and potential technical challenges it may raise
    • Mentors their team to continually grow and learn by sharing their expertise and guidance
    • Understands the overall brief and goals of a project and communicates this clearly to each member of the team
    • Delegates work responsibly to ensure successful completion of shots across team members of all skill levels
     

    Requirements:

    • 5 years minimum working on feature animation, VFX projects or TV Series in a senior position.
    • Previous experience leading successful stereoscopic teams on digital feature film or VFX projects

    FP&A is responsible for the budgeting / forecasting and decision support processes within the Corporate Finance team.

    The Animal Logic Roto Training course is an unpaid 4 week full time course held in our Studio located in Fox Studios Australia.

    This program is designed to fill our need for Roto trainees on future projects.  It is Nuke based and allows people to progress naturally onto a Compositing 2D based career path. 

    The course is Roto based, but basic compositing techniques, tracking, keying and a bit of the 3D camera system is covered too.  We will also cover 3D stereo techniques as this is skill set that is required for many projects.

  •  Expression of Interest - Software Engineering

     
    We welcome applications from Engineers interested in software development at Animal Logic.
     
    As a Software Engineer in one of the five specialist areas at our Sydney facility, you work as part of a large multi-site department on software developed for our facilities in both Sydney and Vancouver.
     
    Experience in software development for visual effects and animation is what we look for primarily, however we are open to hearing from people in related visual industries, or with applicable knowledge and an interest in actualising beautiful computer generated imagery.

    Rendering:   Rendering is responsible for the development and enhancement of our proprietary rendering software (Glimpse): including our state-of-the-art rendering engine, shading system and scene representation.

    Pipeline:  Pipeline is responsible for creating software used by artists in the craft departments; building tools and interfaces, enabling asset flow, scene assembly and scene manipulation, to support and manage complex workflows in a highly iterative pipeline.

    A significant project for Pipeline at present is upgrading our facility to make use of a more consistent scene description format, and adapting every stage of our production pipeline to take full advantage of the benefits offered by that approach.

    We are very interested in hearing from software engineers who have API design experience, exposure to high-performance computing environments and prior experience working with compact representations of large in-memory scene graphs in film production or games environments.

    Production Systems: Production Systems develops and maintains production tracking and reporting systems, digital asset management systems and database systems that play a key role in automating our production pipeline. A particular Production Systems focus is working on our proprietary render farm software, which is utilised to manage a large private compute cloud.

    Animation & Rigging:  Animation and Rigging (Software Development) is responsible for the evolution of production tools and processes, especially in the areas of character animation and rigging; supporting the development of improved tools and techniques in collaboration with our artistic staff.

    Computer Graphics/Simulation :  Computer Graphics, which includes Simulation, is responsible for continually evolving and integrating our visual effects production tools and processes and making our technical achievements meaningful and useful for our Artists. This is particularly important in areas of natural phenomena simulation, procedural geometry generation/amplification, and creature effects.

  •  Expression of Interest - Tracking/Matchmove Training

    The Animal Logic Matchmove Training course is an unpaid 3 - 4 week full time course held in our Studio located in Fox Studios Australia. 

    This program is designed to fill our need for Matchmove trainees on future projects.  Using 3DEqualizer and Maya.  You will need basic Maya skills.

    The learning outcome is for you to be able to take a shot from start and assess it, problem solve (to a degree), produce a successful track, export a camera and line the shot up in Maya to produce a finished camera track; then to pass that onto other departments.
