Happy Feet, the first digitally animated feature film ever produced in Australia, was the largest endeavor in Animal Logic’s history.

Happy Feet, the first digitally animated feature film ever produced in Australia, was the largest endeavor in Animal Logic’s history. The Warner Bros/Village Roadshow film was produced by Kennedy Miller in association with Animal Logic. From Happy Feet’s inception, Animal Logic was actively involved in every step of the creative process to bring the film to life, working closely alongside Director George Miller and Kennedy Miller to create an engaging story with unforgettable characters.

“IT JUST AIN'T PENGUIN OK”

The Animal Logic team created the look for every key character and scene in the film, bringing them all to life – from concept art & design to modeling, rigging, mo-cap, 2D & 3D animation, surfacing, lensing, crowds, visual effects and lighting.

From capturing the spectacular scenery of Antarctica to achieving the ‘art-directed reality’ in which normally identical penguins are given individual looks and personalities, the film presented many exciting artistic and technological challenges. During the four year period of making the film, Animal Logic pushed the envelope of innovation and our own creativity to help create a technically and visually groundbreaking film.

The film’s unique look – from fluffy baby penguin fur to snow kicks to underwater chases and ever-changing skies – was achieved through a unique mixture of techniques and proprietary software, created in-house at Animal Logic.
